April Church Council Highlights

Lay Leader, Butch Frye stated he has been asked by the District Superintendent to provide a list of laity-driven activities for our church. He will report the following, and asked the Council to provide the names of any not included; Thrift Shop, Lazarus Project, Missions, Boy Scouts, UMM, UMW, Bereavement Committee, 55 and Alive, PreSchool, Children singing at care homes, and Summer Willow.

UMW President, Denise Warnock, mentioned the District Day Apart will be held Sunday, April 17 at 2pm at Calvary UMC. She also reported some updates will be made to the church parlor soon.

Outreach: Daisy Reeves encouraged the Youth and UMM to consider entering a float in the Pinetree Festival on Saturday, May 7th.  If your ministry would like to be a vendor and use the opportunity as a fundraiser, please contact the church office. There will also be a community-wide yard sale at the Boneyard on June 4.

55 and Alive: Dr. John Derden reported an excellent turnout for their March program.  The group will meet at the Foskey’s Clubhouse in April.

Preschool: A Blessing Graduation ceremony will be at 7 p.m. on May 5. If you’d like to make a donation towards Bibles that will be passed out to the 18 preschoolers, please contact Melinda Hall or the church office.  Registration for the upcoming school year is underway.

Children: Volunteers are need in various capacities for Vacation Bible School the week of June 20-23. Please see Melinda Hall or Missy Brenton if you are willing to give of your time to make this a successful biblical experience for our children.

Missions: Wilder Smith announced FUMC will host the Missions on the Move Board Meeting, Saturday April 16. Also, Lenten Offerings were down drastically this year.

Youth: Volunteers and youth are needed for a mission trip to North Carolina June 12-17. Let Rus Black or Will Donaldson know if you can participate.

Pastor’s Report: The last Family Night supper will be April 27 and the Kitchen Committee will take off for the summer.  Bro. Scott is considering beginning a Spiritual Gifts study when we resume meeting in the fall.
